This program is designed to meet the needs of parents with children under 2 years of age.  This includes pregnant parents.

The goal of this service is to provide parents with the opportunity to learn new skills for nurturing and healthy communication ~ the foundation of attachment.

NURTURING  IS  the ability to care for and promote growth in yourself and others.  We ALL need nurturing!  All of us ~ parents and children ~ need limits and rules.  We also need understanding, encouragement, warmth and respect.  It’s all part of nurturing.


Some topics that will be covered:

Self Awareness  Age-appropriate expectations
Communication Problem Solving
Empathy Discipline Alternatives
Bonding and Attachment


The First Step service consists of group training sessions and weekly in-home coaching/support.

Parents will learn how to:

  • Handle feelings, communicate needs, recognize others needs and take charge of  their behavior
  • Have warm interactions and communication with their child and other adults
  • Establish nurturing routines for daily living such as meal times, bed times, chores, bath time, diaper changing or toilet training
  • Replace hitting or yelling with more effective techniques such as; redirection, ignoring, choices & consequences, encouragement, family rules, problem solving and verbal management
  • Recognize the need for healthy touch
  • Handle stress and anger
  • Gain a sense of personal power

 

Referrals:  One can become involved by referring yourself or referral from a community agency, Public Health, or the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Referrals can be mailed, faxed or phoned in to our office.

Program Length:  10 weeks

Program Day:  Tuesday afternoons 1:00pm – 4:00pm
